Bogdanov-Belskiy Nikolai
Russian artist (born 1868 - died 1945). Nikolay Bogdanov-Belskiy was born in the village Sopotovo of the Smolensk province in 1868. He studied at the drawing school of S.Racinskis in the city Tatevo of Tvera province. He also studied in the icon painting studio of the Trinity and Saint Sergiy monastery. Studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture under Vasiliy Polenov, Vladimir Makovskiy and Illarion Pryanishnikov between the 1884-1889. Was awarded by the big silver medal and the title of the professional artist in 1889. Studied at the Higher Fine Arts School of the Saint Petersburg Academy of Arts under Ilya Repin between the 1894-1895. Studied in studios of F.Kormon and Kolarossi in Paris. Became the member of the Itinerants (Peredvizhniki) group in 1896. Was the chairman of the Society of the Followers of Arkhip Kuinji between the 1909-1921. Was granted the title of the academician of the Saint Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts in 1903. Became the active member of the Saint Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts in 1916. Lived in Latvia since 1921.
